Dry stone wall leading up to eco home in Scotland

Three Glens

Private Residential

Dumfries, Scotland

Rural, New build, Carbon Neutral Low Impact, Interior Design, Landscape Design.

Contractor: 3BConstruction

A copse of trees and an outcrop of rocks inspired a design response within a rural context rooted in the landscape. Existing dry-stone walls sweep upwards and extend through the very heart of the house, providing an axis for the layout.

Full height glazing in the living space opens onto an outdoor decked balcony commanding panoramic views across the Three Glens, an inspiring background to everyday life. The impact of the roof is reduced by the use of turf taken from the surrounding fields, minimising the overall visual impact within the landscape.

The oak cladding will fade over time to a weathered silver tone, complementing the surrounding dry-stone walls. Inside, reclaimed materials and natural tones add a welcome touch of warmth within a rugged landscape.
